  • #97 Eaglecrest Trails
The sun returned to Juneau so hiking was back on! I decided to hike up the ski mountain.
In the morning the sun was orange! Really creepy.  (There was a fire in Canada so the sky was a little hazy,)
The trail is a nice path that Eaglecrest workers use during the summer.

This is looking back toward the city.
up near the Ptarmigan lift

Then we hiked the ridge to see the channel.

apparently I really liked his PB&J
So did Carolyn

Hiking back down the "easy way"

The descent- not so easy! (especially on the knees!)

Good hike, can't wait to do it on ski's ;)

Glory Hole/Perseverance /Red Mill

  • 115 b Glory Hole Overlook Trail
  • 7/5/13
Took a nice hike with just Zep to Perseverance, which is one of my favorites and did a couple easy hikes that I haven't before.

View of the Silverbow Basin. Great place with a dedicated bench to have a PB&J and PBR!

The Flume

  • #113 The Flume
7/2/13
The Flume is a nice, short boardwalk trail downtown near Perseverance and Mt. Robert's Trails.  It was a nice after brunch walk before the rest of the day festivities.

Doggie friends!

There is a large wooden pipe that carries water from Gold Creek to a power plant.   This area is very active for avalanches and in the winter of 1971-72, the snow avalanched down Mount Juneau and filled the valley floor, and stopped up the side of Mount Maria.  (taken from " 90 Short Walks Around Juneau" book.

6/26/13
  • #70 Thunder Mountain Trail
  • or #74 Thunder Mountain from Sunny Point
Summit Time!

The trail head, on the side of old Glacier Highway.

Here we go!

1 mile down- of mud and skunk cabbage.
I'm making this face because the mile was a bit hard and it was the easiest!

Doggie play time!
It opened up into a nice little meadow!

Getting up there!

Trying to beat the clouds rolling in!

hiking up the REALLY hard part!
My doggie- patiently waiting for me.  She is the bestest dog! She would come back to check on me to see if I was still coming and then hike with me for encouragement!
Hiking in action- thank you Newt for the poles!

Yes there was snow! (Which I later fell/slid down ;))

Believe it- I did it!
Uh, oh!

Celebration time
Doggies get a treat too

Thanks Trail Boss
Heintzleman Ridge- we will save you for a sunny day!
Clearing up a bit

Glacier View!
Aww, thanks Zep!

Fun spot to camp? ;)

The descent- way harder than up, especially since it was slushy muddy thanks to the rain!

The "we are lost and I'm really tired but glad I did it" face!
