Back at it!
6/24/13
  • #29 Breadline Bluff Trail
Well the sun returned to Juneau!! :)  I was afraid I missed the fantastic weather while I was gone for a couple weeks! Turned out to be another beautiful day.  I had appointment at 2:00 so the trail had to be a shorter one.
Alex, my trail boss, thought this was the trail head.  "The trail follows part of the route once used by tee harbor cannery workers to get to Amalga for Saturday night entertainment." (King p. 36)
After some ups and downs over tree routes, this is the view as the trail winds along the bluff near the shore with several steep routes to the rocky beach bottom.

It's called the Breadline trail because there are tons of fish.  We could totally hear and see them jumping!

Then the trail opened up into this meadow with new flowers I haven't seen before.
 Then there was this bridge.
This is where I thought the trail head was.  Turns out we both were right!

Very interesting sign!
FYI intrepid means fearless
precipitous means dangerously high or steep
vertiginous deals with being dizzy from vertigo  ;)
  • #81 Samlon Creek Falls
It was still so nice out so after my appointment we decided to go on another trail.

To get to the falls you need to go past the Salmon bake- looks good!

"I don't think there is any gold in here."
Two old rusty Pelton water wheels used during gold mining days to make power.
Before the Salmon bake, it was used as a hatchery that was built during the early part of the Alaska oil boom.

We really do not take a good pic together!
